Intro to Ashtanga Yoga

Course Content:The word “yoga” in Sanskrit means “union,” and yoga is an ancient method of unifying the body, mind and spirit. Originally developed to improve the body’s ability to be still in meditation, yoga is a series of postures and movements that help us to achieve a balance between strength and flexibility, teach us to align movement with breath, increase mental focus and allow us to realize our maximum potential on a physical, mental and spiritual level.

Ashtanga is an active, challenging form of yoga that can be adapted to all levels of fitness and practiced at any age. Its distinguishing characteristics are that is a faster-paced form of yoga with transitional movements between the postures, and the postures are practiced in a set order.

In practical terms, by practicing yoga, you will:

  • Become stronger and more flexible
  • Have greater presence of mind
  • Have more confidence in your physical ability
  • Be healthier and more energetic.
